Danielle Ratliff

As an entrepreneur, small business owner, and “recovering workaholic,” Danielle Ratliff is driven to help people find holistic, long-term solutions to stress, chronic pain, and mental overwhelm.

After a five year career as a nutrition counselor and Registered Dietitian, Danielle became a Licensed Massage Therapist to take a more proactive, hands-on approach to physical and mental wholeness. In 2012 and with no prior business experience, she purchased Serenity Now Massage Therapy from its founder when the company was a year old. What began as a start-up team of 3 massage therapists has grown into an established, well-respected practice with 14 therapists and a studio manager. Since 2012, Serenity Now has been a healing space for more than 11,000 clients.

Danielle taught Anatomy & Physiology at the NC Massage School from 2014 to 2015, where she continues to hand select (pun intended) only the best Neuromuscular Certified therapists. She also hosted a weekly talk radio show with WSIC 105.9 FM focused on holistic health and mental wellness from 2018 to 2019. She is an expert contributor with Lakeside Living Magazine, currently focused on stress management & holistic wellness topics.

After seven years of 70-80 hour work-weeks, she realized her workaholic lifestyle was interfering with her own healing. Many are surprised to learn she has anxiety dating back to childhood and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from a rape and suicide attempt in 2010. She is no stranger to the challenges life can bring, but she is resilient. It was time to practice what she preached when it came to work-life balance and prioritizing self-care. She made the difficult decision to official “retire” from her roles as a massage therapist and talk radio host in 2019.

Writing is a creative healing outlet for Danielle, and she continues to share pieces of her story (along with stress management, anxiety & self-care tips) through prose and poetry on social media. She hopes her journey will empower others to rise from the ashes of trauma, stress & overwhelm so they can evolve into the most authentic, joyful version of themselves.

Both Serenity Now and Danielle have received numerous awards for their work. In both 2017 and 2018, Serenity Now received the Normy Award from Lake Norman Publications, recognizing the company as the Best Massage Studio in Lake Norman. Danielle herself has also been recognized for her role as a leading entrepreneur, recently receiving the ACHI Magazine Editor’s Choice Award in 2019 and their Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2018. She was also chosen as one of Mecklenburg Times’ 50 Most Influential Women in 2017, was named one of Lake Norman’s 100 Most Powerful Women by the Huntersville Herald in 2015, and received one of Lake Norman Woman Magazine’s Women of Will Finalist Awards in 2013.

Outside of the studio, you can find Danielle making memories with her girlfriend, friends, and family or reading with her cats. She loves consignment shopping, decaf coffee, yoga, and the occasional local craft beer. You can also find her giving back through her volunteer work as a business coach, mentor and sponsor with See Her Lead, a local non-profit providing experiential programs for young women to enhance their emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and business growth.

Danielle finds personal joy in providing a place of respite from your day to day stresses, and she is thankful for all the support from current clients and other local Lake Norman small businesses. She welcomes emails at [email protected] with your questions, feedback, writing/speaking opportunities, or referral partnerships (or you can reach her by calling 704-465-5527 and pressing 3 when prompted).
