Reiki is a holistic method of stress reduction and relaxation. Reiki can be translated into two words: “Rei” means "universal energy" and “Ki” refers to an individual's "life force".
A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including the body, emotions, mind and spirit. It creates many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being.

Reiki is not a substitute for other appropriate medical or emotional treatment.

A Japanese man named Mikao Usui discovered the healing art of Reiki during a spiritual experience while meditating on Mt Kuarama in Japan in the early 1900's. He began using this method of healing for others, and in turn, people became interested in learning this healing art. Through a series of attunements and practice, Reiki was taught to Chujiro Hayashi and Hawwayo Takata.  Mrs. Takata is most known for bring Reiki to the United States. Since Reiki reached the US, its practice has grown rapidly.

Reiki is spiritual in nature, but it is not a religion.  It has no dogma and you do not need a specific belief system in order to receive Reiki.

What to expect during a Reiki Session:

Take a deep breath and imagine that you are in a quiet and peaceful space with gentle lighting and the sound of soft music. You will be asked if you would like to remove your shoes and you will be instructed to lie on a massage table. You may wear comfortable clothes and you will be given a blanket for warmth and a pillow for your head.  A Reiki session is all about you and what makes you feel comfortable and relaxed.

The next hour belongs to you and only you. As you close your eyes, you will relax and slowly melt into the table. While you are relaxed, hands will be placed lightly on your body and the Reiki energy will travel throughout your body. The practitioner will release this energy with the intent of providing you with relaxation and enveloping you with love, light, and serenity.  You can choose to concentrate on where the practitioner is or where you feel the Reiki energy is moving through you.  Alternatively, you can simply listen to the music and consciously let go of your muscles.  You may notice heat or tingling in the areas the practitioner is working, or you may feel nothing at all except relaxation.

Remember, Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment; however, it is a great way to promote relaxation and stress reduction.  Julia is a Usui/Holy Fire Reiki Master and will be happy to guide you through your first Reiki session and can answer any questions you may have about the treatment.
